I wouldn't. 22 foot is a bit small anyway but I would not buy any boat with an old fashioned long keel - boat design has moved on since the days that long keels were forced on designers by the material limitations of the day.

....boat design has moved on since the days that long keels were forced on designers by the material limitations of the day.

Agreed, but whats nicer to enjoy & drive for the pure hell of it - an E type jag or a modern hot sport / hatch thing. The latter is undoubably far superior in every objective respect but .....

The entire argument is moot since boats don't generally devalue faster than currency so the average price of a boat is £0 as long as you have the money. Some of these low production ones can go up in value due to demand (I believe Cornish Crabbers went up at one point due to this).

Going back to the car analogy of the Bugatti vs Skoda - the Bugatti is far better value because the Skoda will be worthless in 5 years!

It was apparently still possible a few years ago to buy a new (dutch-built) Hurley 22 for a mere £84,000.

I bought mine second-hand but it sails just as well - or will do when I get my new sails. :D

The Dutch flag has horizontal strips. Easy to remember as all of Holland is flat!
The French flag has vertical stripes. Easy to remember as (fill in your own words here!).

Soon after I joined the RN I was told that the difference between Dutch and French flags is easy to remember. The stripes on the French flags are vertical because French flags are always run down.

I was told it was because the Dutch do it lying down :p.

why complain that the Bugatti costs more than the Skoda?
In this case, the Bugatti is the one made in Sri Lanka, and the Skoda is the one made in Western Europe to a state of the art design.

Each to their own, but even at equal money, I think I'd prefer a First 21.

I think the Dutch might be a bit confused at you calling them "frogs".

Long before the French were referred to as Frogs in the 18th and 19th centuries (when we were at war with them) the term was applied to the Dutch from 14th century (as marsh dwellers).

So, in a very unscientific poll (riddled with ambiguities and a poorly worded question - best get that in up front:D)... 60% stated they would pay less than £35k, with a quarter saying they would pay less than £25k for a new build 22' long keeled sloop...

Well.... the Yarmouth 22 retails at £45,990 as a base model... the boat show model (that is on on offer second hand after the show) would retail new at £50,297 -

From the yarmouth website, seems they'll take £39k
