I'll go along with that. I just had a re-rig, some engine work, some goodies from the boat show and ordered a new main sail. Antifouling and marina fees to come, and I'm damn well not going to add it up. The boat is to enjoy, not to bean count the cost.

Methinks he doth protest to much.... I bet you know to the costs to the nearest half groat!

You are not by any chance a retired bank manager or accountant trying to reinvent yourself whilst leading us other mere mortals astray are you? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I paid £26 for 2.5 litres at the Essex boat jumble. Can't recall the exact type but I checked on the internet afterwards and its selling for £45 elsewhere so I'm pretty happy.

Not sure what % of annual income that works out to be....

Hhhmmm, price of boat when bought, at peak or currently? Against salary when bought or pension now? I could have chosen almost any category!

I pay boat costs out of my part-time salary. My pension pays our living costs & her pension will pay for holidays. SWMBO doesn't care what the costs are as long as I pay them & she can enjoy it. And I don't care what our holiday costs are as long as she pays 'em. Quite a good arrangement really, she gets to choose the holidays & I get to go with her. I choose the boat & she gets the trips out on that too.

Interesting - we have almost exactly the same arrangement. Only difference is that I avoid the holidays if at all possible.

The "how did you pay for it" post was interesting too. It was my impression that far more paid by way of loan or house mortgage increase etc as opposed to cash. Makes you think when some boats on this forum are up in the 200-500k region. Must be a lot of GPs on here!

I kid you not, I have not added it up nor do I intend to. When I bought the boat I felt rich enough not to care, and after the last year I have lost enough capital, and expect to lose about a third of my income this year, so I am just spending a bit of capital rather than see it earn peanuts. At best I have another ten or so years with the boat before anno domini takes its toll or the grim reaper gets me, and I still think I will be able to manage my finances well enough for them to last me out even if I eat up most of the capital. Its the next generation I feel sorry for, because I do not think they will have our opportunities.
