How much to offer vs. broker's asking price?

I'd say try 20% below asking price and take it from there. Don't worry about upsetting the vendor - no one is going to refuse to deal with you if you've got money in your pocket!
I might not refuse. I might have my own opinion if my asking price was reasonable, or not. If so, I would tell you to come back with a realistic offer.

I've come across the type of owner this year who absolutely believes he should get every penny he paid, plus anything he's repaired/installed and ignore the fact the boat is a few years older than when he got it.

As a result, they've annoyed the broker acting for them by refusing many many offers, some quite sensible. Even in this crazy a$$ market, that's pushing it.

Bless him, it's his very first boat! :ROFLMAO:

My son tells me the mountain bike and electric guitar markets also suffered from this in the last two years, some form of lockdown madness :). He says prices seem to be coming back towards normal now. The boat I'm interested in is generally thought to be a good 'un, but I'm finding there seems to be no shortage of Shrimpers coming up for sale now, and I expect there'll be more at the end of the season. Might just sit on my hands for a while, because since I started this thread it looks like a house move means I won't be doing much sailing till next season.

Thanks all for your help!
