Just been quoted £600 to carry out a survey and sea trial on a SS tomahawk 37; this dosent include the lift out that will be at my cost, is this the going rate? The boat is no more than 10 miles from the surveyor so no real travel involved.

doesnt sound wrong, but I d make sure you are using a well known surveyor. I ve had good ones, and reports that werent worth £6, never mind £600.

I recently paid £11.00 per foot for the survey of my 27 Footer. From the various people I contacted this seemed to be the going rate in my area - Torquay. Additional to this cost was the lift and hold which it now transpires was a rip off £250.00. I didn't know any better at the time and so I paid up without any fuss but having spoken to several boat users it seems they saw me coming!

Paid £320 on a 28ftr twin engines, flybr etc about a year ago. Lift was 60 quid. As has been said, pick your surveyor carefully.

thanks guys i think it is a bit steep can anyone pm me with the details of the surveyors they have used that they can recomend as it seems im paying over the odds here..

the boat will be in southampton hopefully mooring her in ocean village

Duncan Saunders or Hugo Morgan-Harris, of Saunders Morgan-Harris, are local to you and have both been well spoken of on here. No personal experience of Duncan, but Hugo surveyed my current boat for me when he worked for CE Proof, some years ago, and was excellent.

Don't know how their prices compare with what you've been quoted but I would rather pay more for them to do the survey than have an inferior job done for less......
