How much play should outboard prop have

I have a Honda BF8 and with it in gear you can turn the propeller a quarter of a turn. Is this correct?

Not familar with that engine, but it does sound a lot of movement.
Are you having other probs, such as unusual noises, movement in the shaft, are the splines worn etc:
If not, I would suck it and see.

Get a new prop, the rubber bush will soon break and you will loose all drive

Yes, that is perfectly normal, according to Sportcraft Marina, the oldest Honda marine dealer and service facility in the USA.

The BF8A has no spline, it has a shear pin.

Not true, this is normal play for the BF8a.
