How much of a premium does a ex-royal yacht fetch?

Actually, Red Ensign have a virtual, unofficial monopoly on brokering Rustlers. To my knowledge, virtually every one sold in the last 10 years has been private, or via them. There have been a few exceptions, but not many.

There are a lot of Rustlers based in Falmouth and around there. In addition, many owners choose to winter there and combine it with yard work. The boat yard, although not operated solely by Rustler is very secure, clean and friendly. My boat was there last winter.

So, the boats are there, Red Ensign are there and they work hard to look after Rustler owners. That's why Rustler always recommend Red Ensign as their preferred broker.

Not quite. Yachtsnet have sold Rustler 36s and 31s several times.

I could not swear to this in the High Court.

I begin to doubt I saw it now...

But, in my own mind, I am sure I saw a £120.000 tag on that boat when I first looked. It would have been a very good deal at that.
I guess someone has had second thoughts. It is bound to fetch £300,000 or more.

Just thought I would ask as I had a wheel steered 36 and preferred that.;)

I prefer tiller, but found the tiller on the Rustler 36 awkward and with no hinge, intrusive at anchor.

Who made the 31, then? It was Hollman and Pye designed, so apparently from the same stable. (seemed ok to me btw)

Ansty Yachts in what was the old bus station in Poole - since variously an exhaust fitting station, windscreen replacement, double glazing showroom - building still there.

Ansty Yachts then moved to Cobbs Quay and built the early Trapper yachts.

Custom built boats so if the owner does not want a hinge that's up to him. Not sure which one you saw. Was it very old?

Having said that I have been on over twenty 36's and all have been hinged. Certainly all the recent builds have been.

I'd wait for the survey. :D

The one I was on was 89 or 90.

Even if it it had been a liftie I think it would have been obstructed.

Anyway, buyers choice,so fair enough.

Why ansty for the 31?

Yes, that's very old. Built in the mid 90's I believe. If you look at the newer ones the tiller hinges straight up, no obstruction. If you look at http://www.rustleryachts.com/36-photos.php there are a couple of pictures showing this. There are also old pictures there from the early 90's with hinged tillers.

I do not know the Ansty history. You could try www.rustler31.org.

Has this boat had much use? I wonder what HRH's preferred cruising areas are, and whether anyone has bumped into her on her nautical travels?

'Blue Doublet' was berthed at Ardfern. I heard a tale about a visit from "the Bomb Squad", there to give her a routine check before HRH set sail. The story was that they put on their diving gear prior to doing the underwater search - only to be directed to where the yacht was. Ashore!
Probably just a yarn...

Very old? A 1990 boat is new by my standards!

I suspect that you will find that she I'll have been left alone to get on with sailing.

It has been well known that she kept the boat at ardfern but no real publicity.

Some R36s were available ( no longer so) as DIY fitouts so anything goes on their tiller arrangements.

Many wooden boats with transom hung rudders had a slot in the rudderhead through which the tiller located, useful ad you could remove it for proper varnishing or storage or just more cockpit space at anchor.

I can state with some authority that Princess Anne had a test sail on a wheelsteering version of her boat before committing to ordering hers with tiller.
