My current boat will shortly be up for sale... she is a 1971 Conway 26. Cost £5500 5 years ago with ancient volvo petrol engines. 2 years ago she was re-launched with a pair of brand new mercruiser diesels which now have 130 hours on the clock. She is serviceable but in need of finishing ie dashboard is just plywood and various other finishing bits. She has a fridge locker and pressurised water with a calorifier just waiting to be connected. The engines cost around £14000 fitted. I know she aint worth what I paid for the engines but is she worth £10k..?? I'm aware this is a wide question with quite a few variables but can anyone point out a boat with twin diesels ( new ones ) for under £10k...? just wondering where I start her on ebay... thanks Iain

She is probably worth what the engines are worth second hand.
It's unlikely that someone in the market for that model of boat will pay what you want, but the engines are probably worth putting in another boat?
Putting it another way, what else could someone with 10K to spend, buy for the money?

Not that unusual a problem.

If you you do not have much luck selling boat as such you may get better response with an Ebay listing such as

2 x virtually brand new Merc......XYZ etc etc,can be seen running complete with free boat for use as handy container until engines required.

cruel but true, we would dearly love to have new engines in ours but cannot justify the cost, it is still a twenty three year old boat.

Give me a day or two and I think I might know someone who will want the boat/engines, I'll see what they they think they are worth. I've found a good market for this type of engine just need to check with the guy on the ground.

e-mail the full spec with pictures if you can.

You will get a far better price if you finish everything. People don't seem to want projects anymore but a finished turnkey boat will fetch far more that one needing even a small amount of work. At that age it is the condition of the boat and it's condition not the year that will decide the price.
I wouldn't take much notice of the previous comments as most Forum people are more upmarket (and I don't mean that in any way to be disparaging) and have little experience of the bottom end of the market where there are still people willing to pay a good price for an older boat that they would not otherwise be unable to afford if it were newer.

Possibly sold already!

thanks for all replys especially those that may have had some interest in the boat ( even though this wasn't intended as a covert add!!) but I've just agreed to sell it to a friend of mine for an acceptable price so job done... if anything goes wrong with the sale I'll get back to anyone who might have been interested if they still are. Thanks again for your help... Iain
