Emptied the boat this weekend ready for selling (boo-hoo) and found that I had 170kg of gear on board that was just taking up space and doing very little. Food for 5000, magazines 12 months out of date, spare ropes a mile long (never used in 8 years) just in case, this list goes on and on. and that is on top of all the safety equipment. All this for coastal cruising/club racing and the yearly trip around the North Sea!
Am I in a minority or majority?

absolutly right. Every time I empty my boat I am amazed how it all adds up.
Bet she will sail faster now ( or is it sale faster)

I've just sold an Endurance 38, which is listed in Colvics sales blurb as 8.9 ton. The buyer had it lifted out prior to the sale for a survey and the crane driver said we weighed 10.8 tons. He was a bit concerned cos he was only insured for 10 tons. We've lived aboard now for 2 years so it looks like we have gained a few extra pounds eh?

The thought fills me with horror. Have been thinking about nipping across to Trinidad and shipping all the debris on Stingo back here, but am worried that containers big enough for all of my junk might not exist. Not only that, but if they do exist, how will I afford the shipping charges?

Majority me hearty!

When I fitted the Windlass the recomendation was 35mmsq copper - I Used 80!, I had the choice of the lightweight aluminium or the Chrome plated naval Bronze - I chose the Bronze.

Mind you I found two extra crates of kronebourg this summer when I was stowing this years haul in Cherbourg - They were under the colour TV transit packng Box - ROFL!

Re: We all do it but

weight is evil. Weight in the ends is really evil.

We stripped out a 60ft retired racer turned charter boat once. We raised it up 6" and sunk the pontoon. She was still equiped for ocean crossing but all of that "might come in handy" stuff was removed. It brought the old girl to life.

Being at the small boat end of the spectrum I carry as much stuff that does two jobs as possible but I'm still overloaded.
