How much does Awlgrip cost?

Wow! I had a 38ft done for £3.5K and a nice job (admittedly not high topsides) I would have thought £5/6K tops for the OP

Was that sprayed with 2-pack? And did the price include unstepping the mast(s), lifting, cleaning, putting in shed, building staging around it, preparation, masking, priming, sanding, spraying, detailing, and then putting everything back together and the boat in the water?

we have awlgrip, but after speaking to the supplier to get a touch up kit, we bought Epifanes two pack that was colour matched. That was after the advice from the awlgrip pepole due to the costs. Advice received was was the Epifanes was just as good. It was half the price.

we recently met a dutchman with a 38' trawler type thing that has the exact same paint scheme as us. He told us that , earlier this year, it cost £4k to have her repainted with Epifanes two pack (in Holland and, apparenty at mates rates). Brushed, not sprayed.

Also on supplier advice, we use one pack Epifanes to touch up our 15 year old Awlgrip. It passes the ten foot test with ease.

! had my 44 ft cutter Awlgripped 3 years ago. 2 coats primer 3 coats topcoat contrasting Awlgrip boot stripe. £2,600 this included all materials.

Where? Powerboats in Trinidad and Selwyn was the painter. N.B. This was significantly cheaper than other quotes in places like Antigua and Grenada.

Cost a bit more in the UK - I'd guess for a good complete job on Kippers CW35 maybe £5,000. Personally I'd rub down and prepare and repaint by hand with Toplac or maybe Tekaloid.

I did have a hull Awlgrip dark blue sprayed though once, but it was the insurer paying for it after typhoon damage. Fabulous finish, better than the original dark blue gelcoat. I am always worried about 'hull colour changes by paint' - any scratch jumps out at you.

The hull colour change is an issue but any scratch deep enough to need a touch up would need doing whatever the colour. I agree with SM about brilliant white, we did that on the wooden wheelhouse and it looks all wrong, we've bought a slightly off white Dulux to redo it.

I have to say that £5k is a big save up. But maybe again following SM, rebate on the berthing could easily come to £2k if it was one of those marinas that sometimes takes a while to do things.

I was talking to a chap on a beach in Tresco about a month ago and he was talking about repainting his yacht. He said he painted her every year, quicker than polishing. And he came out with the classic comment, what's the difference between a good and bad paint job? Answer, about 10' !!

Yes, it was 2 pack. It didn't include the lifting and relaunching and de-masting, but everything else including all prep, putting in shed, masking etc. So on top of the 3.5K I guess I paid another 5/600 quid to have the boat moved around It was Pedros at Dartside Quay. They also did my Coppercoat, but at a different time. I was a Brixham Marina customer back then (4 years ago) and you get a 'good deal' on lifting and launching, even if you pay for it through your berthing fees.
