Classic backside covering

Bear in mind that special interest magazines depend upon advertising, so they will tend to look on the positive side. Caveat emptor as usual. By husband followed one of the sail mags advice on 'best buy' deck shoes. He regrets it. (Not current recommendation). I think we might give 'crocs' a go. Anyone tried them?

The motorcycle industry was a classic in the '50's and '60's. The AMC group stopped advertising in the industry press after a poor road test.

When I worked for Kawasaki UK a top technician was employed to ensure the bikes were in perfect condition. They were not tuned-that does not work. If you have a faster than standard press bike the following weeks postbag is full of" Please send 15MPH by the next post. "

To the poster above-Crocs are great boat shoes but lose their tread quickly if used off the boat and then become slippy.I have a pair of similar plastic sandals by Shimano. To be tested this coming season....................................

I prefer the Aldi ones.

Possibly so but I can't really blame them in this litigious world. I don't think it means their reviews are biased or untrustworthy. I hope no one would go out and splurge money just on the basis of a magazine review. I put a lot more weight on the experiences of the forumites and use the magazine stuff as a starting point for "research"

I relied on a test of inflatables and got the best buy, mainly because they said it was one of the better ones for rowing. It's too lightly constructed and I struggle to row it 'cos I can't get the oars past my knees on the return stroke. I'll be a hellava lot less gullible next time :(

Only three types of boat footwear ; nowt , crocs , deck boots. Crocs are best purchased from the local outlet/carp/tkmax etc in most shocking colours available thereby being thief proof (dump them when the soles get slippy, circa two years)

Agree with 2 out of 3, I don't have any boots.

I don't trust them at all. Which is a large part of why I don't buy the magazines either. I used to buy sailing mags for the independent articles, but there seems to be a severe lack of those these days.

+1

Used to subscribe in the early 90's when I was upgrading the electronics on my boat.
In every review of electronic kit a Raymarine product came out on top.
Raymarine were also big advertisers at the time. Coincidence?

Didn't this all change with the Walker Wingsail IIRC?

drumbeat,

could you elaborate on that please, just for interest ?

If the thing I think it is, the prototype used to be dumped ashore at Emsworth Marina, looked a very ambitious project, which is not the same as saying I liked the look of it ! :)

My understanding is that IPC did ai review that most consider fair but it was detrimental and the wing sail project failed. They sued IPC and in many people's opinion wrongly won the case and received compensation for the failure of their company.

Hence IPC were seriously burnt and are now more careful knowing that even accurate reporting/review could leave them liable.

All court cases can be a lottery with nothing to do with fairness and more to do with the quality of the barrister and whether it rained that day!

Yep, that's about it :encouragement:
