How much do my mast weight.

Here a question for the number crunchers .
Removing a 14 mts mast off my boat how much less daft would I have ?

We Draw 1.85 Mts in salt water , just doing some sums and wonder about doing some of this season plotting about in the French rivers and canals has we be sailing the south of France .

Not much, but if you take all the booze off, you should get at least another 0.3m ;-)

Will Vic need a 'grey water' tank ? i thought on the inland rivers and canals you need to have a holding tank which you can pump out at various points. Happy to be corrected if wrong

Chris last time I used the canal was in 2008 when I took my other boat back to the UK from the Med and never sew anywhere to pump out . Not sure much have changed , I know in Holland you can't pump out in the canal and there is places to pump out .

I reckon that is a serious underestimate. With rigging, boom etc I think it would be at least twice that but I agree that the change in draft will only be an inch or so

When I fitted the mast to Distantshaws the crane load cell reading was 500 Kg.

This was a 15 meter aluminium mast with standing and running rigging fitted and all electric wiring nav lights and spot lights.

Don't the reeely keen racers snap their tooth brushes in half to reduce weight? Perhaps shave daily to get rid of heavy stubble?
Best stay away from the Canal di Midi on account of the depth..

I think some are quite exceedingly fussy about weight. Our previous yacht was entered by son and friends for WHYW. He came back with stories of cupboard doors left on quaysides etc. Tanks empty. Anchors and chains removed. And being WHYW - it was all replaced by crew, beer and rum, in about equal proportions! . Who knows what difference it made? You are as likely to gain draft in fresh water as you will lose by taking stuff ashore?

Do you actually need the keel whilst in the canals? take it off problem solved.

I struggle to lift even one end of our 12m mast when its flat on trestles.

I take it you only have one keel rather than the more useful twin keel arrangement?

Good man , why didn't I think of that . Maybe rather then remover it I could just cut half of it off . Now how many hacksaw blade am I going to need ?

Just did the maths for my twister and an inch higher would require 210 kg weight loss and an inch deeper would be 270kg gain.
Interesting to know.

I have no idea how much the rig weighs but I think 500kg would be closer than 100.
