It must have been the late 1960s I was sculling about the trots in westCowes when I was hailed by to very well dressed yachtmen slightly the worse for the demon drink.They hailed me andaskedtobeferried to their yacht which I duly obliged,that could have well been the genesus of the whole business ?

Well the whole sorry business of use ing an inflatable could all be avoided ifyachts where large enough to carry a paid crew and a proper pulling boat .Therot started letting the proletariat go yachting !

A smart operator would charge nothing to take punters ashore....because he could charge anything he wanted for the return trip
The opposite to how the toll used to operate on the Severn bridge; pay to get into Wales, but free the other way.

I always assumed that the Welsh wanted it this way, to make sure the English went back home.
