The Yealm is really bad (not to Spanish levels). £4 per person each way. Approx 100 yards. The ferryman announces “this is a really expensive ferry”. I’ll invest the effort to blow up the dinghy next time.

La Savina is where London's hedge fund managers take their mistresses to the restaurant ashore in their shiny new powerboats (leaving them to drag anchor immediately). So it's priced appropriately. Why would you even want to go ashore there!? If you can't afford the taxi, you certainly can't afford the restaurant.

Yes, this is from actual experience and the restaurant taxi saved us by pushing the dragging powerboat aside so it could drag out to sea instead of into our pulpit. He then went and picked up the hedge fund manager from the restaurant, who was at least apologetic about his incompetence after retrieving his boat. So good job someone is paying that restaurant taxi driver a lot of money, he's got to be quick! :)

We provision our boat well before going to the Baleares and just pick up some fresh veggies here and there, as that was pretty much the only thing not vastly overpriced there anyways. Heading that way again soon! :)

On the Greek island of Mykonos, two people for two drinks and two crab legs were charged 520.80 euros and 80 euro compulsory tip; over 600 euro. Apparently this is "cheap" in some restaurants it is much more than that!! Last month a group of 10 people paid 60,000 euros for food and a few bottles of champagne.

Not
I’m perfectly willing to blow up my own tender at The Folly to not pay the £4 per person return fare.
Not done it but, given they charge an un-taxi-like per person fee, why not summon repeatedly for individual transfers? Maybe that would instill some rudimentary understanding of economics. Always been (un)lucky enough to be able to lay alongside the pub pontoon for as long as I care too.

I seem to remember that we had difficulty finding anywhere to land from a dinghy when we were there several years ago.
We saw signs saying no dinghies/inflatables allowed to tie up and simply returned to the boat. I didn't get a chance to check again as I had a call to say my brother-in-law had died and immediately sailed overnight to a mainland marina to fly home.

It’s 2 quid return. Or was 4 weeks ago anyway.
it’s 2 quid each way. They usually charge you only on drop off at The Folly, for both ways. I’m assured that this is to prevent the situation where people spend all their money in the pub, and can’t afford the ferry back to their boat. Our permanent mooring is there, btw. We know how much it is.

We paid 2 quid return. Maybe my negotiation skills are better than yours

For a mere £175 return, if you’re in the same anchorage as me, I’ll pump up my leaky old Avon classic runabout and run you ashore and pick you up a short while later later.

I think you’ll find that a bargain.

Obviously so. Drop me a PM if you’re heading back, the £4 we save could be spent on beer.

you've got several choices with your tender when ashore btw. The inside of the folly pontoon, nobody counts the boats, just tie up. Or you can go through the gap upstream of the pontoon, and head for the slipway, between the folly and the dinghy pen. Leave it in the beach there. This is the Isle of Wight, nobody cares.

Bloody hell, I cannot believe that I am reading of these shinagins by Boating Folk , surely owing to the costs of Boating anyway , plus them that 'go foreign' , the charges mentioned on here are but Peanuts , i was quoted a Fiver for a Water Taxi in Topsham last week , I thought or considered that most reasonable charge ; anything to avoid thge Potential Death Trap of using a small dinghy , especially an Inflateable type , cripes far better go Float or Ashore in a reasonable size craft , keeping dry , and safe

Guess that a fiver is very small beer for ones safety
