Hello my wise and knowledgeable crew ;)

I'm sorry if you can see a earlier post by me about the same topic but i submitted my thread and it never showed (for me anyway)

Well i'm still rebuilding my boat, i'm still learning along the way and i'm still as green as a sea cucumber :o

can anybody steer me in the right direction....

I need to connect my steering wheel in the front of my cabin to my tiller/rudder stock which is as surprisingly at the stern lol big surprise i'm guessing ;)

please can anybody explain how a Morse cable works or if there are other ways of connecting my wheel to my rudder.

As always any diagrams, info or story's more than welcome.

Thank you to all.

Assuming you're referring to a cable with an inner core sliding in an outer sheath, it's called a Bowden cable and works on the same principle as bicycle brake (and gear change) cables. Wiki has a page on it and there will be scores of others if you care to Google.

Plain cables are also used on small boat steering systems: they can only pull, whereas a Bowden can both push and pull if desired.

Rigid mechanical linkages and hydraulic systems are also used (or no linkages at all in the case of tiller steering).

Without more information it is hard to give a definite answer but as you have mention 27 ft cruiser with ysb12 engine and morse cable lets try !
When the USB was current a typical morse steering cable would be the D320 which would have at the helm end a tail of windscreen wiper wire and at the other a ridged tube about 25-30 mm dia with a sliding end the early types having a thread the later a hole just in from the end .
There should be a number stamped in the plastic casing wihich includes the length. You require a fitting kit at the rudder end and a helm with a spindle at he other
Have a look at Hindle controls web site which will give you more detail
It would be worth looking at a low cost hydraulic steering system if starting from scratch .
