Hi,

On an Atlantic trip in 2012 I was encouraged to "go wild" on Racors so we bought 12 of which we used 0 because the diesel was fine that we picked up in the Caribbean. Now 4 years on I am looking at our stock of 6 and wondering whether it is a good idea to pick up another 6.

So the question is how many Racors should you carry and when you get bad fuel how quickly do these filters clog up "worst case" scenario.

In a worst case scenario you wouldn't get far before knowing you have a problem, so would only need twice as many as you changed before realising you need to turn back, plus one or two extra in case it gets worse. In other words, turn back, if back is nearer, before you have used half of your spare filters.

Racors are cheap enough that having 12 onboard won't break the bank.

Cheers thanks, I have the perfect box for 12 and seeing as I was about to fill it with other goods I will wonder over to Google and pick up some more

If they do clog stab them with a screwdriver.

That could get you out of trouble but not for long, the secondary filter will very quickly clog with all the carp that can now bypass the primary filter.
