Sorry about the low-res pic, not much bandwidth here.

He could probably replace all those with just one of those monster 557 v8 7 marine OB's.:)

V8 sitting on top of a 90 deg bevel box on top of a big outboard leg...!

I saw him in Cap Ferrat last week, so he seems to get about - mind you Girolata to Cap Ferrat in that thing is probably a 20 minute hop !!!

Im just curious how the prop rotation is sorted !!!!...eg. if they are fitted alternate (if you see what I mean)........... so i think a second visit in order JFM !!!!.......(or even a "ride" and a write up)??

There was an identical one last weekend at the Cannes show Steve. The prop rotation, port to starboard, was LRRLR. I don't know the full science behind that choice but having the two outer engines as L and R will help marina manoeuvring

I'm no naval architect, but the general opinion in the sates is that it's dead easy to convert a diesel inboard/outdrive boat to outboards. so all those old outdrive boats that are totally uneconomic to re-power with new diesels would become viable projects by just hanging an OB on the transom. Because the OB sits on the transom and only weighs half as much as a Diesel the trim/cg of the vessel will remain approx the same.

When you consider that a 300hp OB cost about £20k, compared to £30k for a diesel; plus at least another £5k for fitting/ re-routing all old the accessories.

Worth considering!:)

Here is a story about the famous boat with 8 large Yamahas on the back - http://www.hoax-slayer.com/drug-runner-boat.shtml

But I am sure there were previous claims re how it was used for crossing the Gibraltar straits rather than the English channel?

A few years back i had a ship going through Straits of Gibraltar when i got a call late in the evening from the master (who is a friend and knows my like for all things RIB) saying they had come across an large rib seemingly abandoned and did i want them to pick it up.

They called it in and requested authorities come out to inspect it prior to lifting on board. 10 meter black rib, single console, 4 x Yam 250. could only have been used for one thing...

They lifted it on board and the engineer set about running it up. 10 mins later, after unblocking fuel lines she was running fine!

They discharged it in Emden where it sat on the quay for several months before i lost track of what happened to it.

im no pro in drug running but guess the risk / reward means that its safer to dump a boat not running right than risk being caught..

There has to come a point where adding engines doesnt increase outright speed but just makes it easier to travel at speed with heavier load. (and of course look cool!)
