Hellooooo

Might upgrade my 28lb motor but can't decide to go larger electric or small petrol.... Is there a way to work out how many lb are in a 1hp motor?!

Thanks

Thats a really tricky conversion....I would have thought the end use was the more important factor here.

If you want speed/power and the ability to run all day go with the petrol engine
If you want to quietly drift along for short periods the stick the the electric motor.

Your current motor probably equates to around 1/4 hp

Thanks its only a small boat and I worry about the weight of a petrol motor!

Looking at an old seagull motor (get the impression its very marmite like) and they come in 1.5hp. Does the small petrol tank hold enough for a day?!

Mic Petrol all day long the little suzy df2.5 is a gem of a little outboard and 13kg ,Is the weight thing worry of lifting it onto the transom?? don`t forget lumpy heavy batterys for leccy i know you can put em in the front of boat depending on cable length but you still have to lift them in .
No idea abot seagulls but sure they have there devotees ,Integeral tank on most little petrols shouls last half a day at slow speed ...we used to get a whole day slow trolling with mine on a local Pike lake Steve

With the weight of me and the min kota at the back the boat looks well pissed and that's with the battery in the middle. If I want to sit in the middle then I'd need an extension for the tiller arm. I wonder how low the back would get with a petrol should I mess about unhooking fish with all the weight at the rear, I won't always be with someone to sit at the front. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Find a 2hp Yamaha/Mariner 2 stroke. Only 10kg and run all day on less than a gallon. Make a simple steering extension with a piece of 1/2" pipe. Fantastic engine, simple easy to service and ultra reliable.

If 10kg hanging off the back makes your boat unstable/unseaworthy its time to get a bigger boat ! (Or stick with the egg whisk ;) )
