Little ships post about Cardigan Bay got me thinking. I've not been to the places he mentioned, just passed by.

So I got to adding up in my head, all the places I have been. Not counting anchorages and stuff, or each pontoon up a river. Only counting proper harbours, but including a few that we could not stay in overnight because of tides.

I've added up in my head 70 different harbours, but just remembered that dont include sailing round the Greek Isles, or on the Norfolk Broads. So I'll have to think again!!

Counted 70 in yer head?
I don't believe it.
As the Man said.

Using all yer fingers and all Yer toes that still leaves 50.
Unless You are from Norfolk
That would still leave 46!

No doubt You have visited more.

Anyway
Why not include those on the Norfolk Broads?

Is it an Ancestral thing?:D

About 38 "proper harbours" since we bought this boat in autumn 2004...then there is the 15 years plus when we were boating in Scandinavia, covering most of the Norwegian, Danish and Swedish coastline.... I'm not sure if I can be bothered starting to count though...

Well as I said, I was only including main harbours. Not just stopping places up river. I did include three places I stopped up the river Severn, but it is a long river. So stopped at far more.

No it's just my wandering. Chichester, to Scotland and most places in between.

You bugger, I've just wasted my Sat night fishing out old log books out of dusty cupboards. SWMBO is not happy

I'm afraid you lot need to get out more. In 20yrs boating, we've visited 146 different harbours/marinas. I won't list them all but they're divided as follows

Thames/Thames Estuary - 8
S Coast/N France/Holland - 92
Med France - 20
Med Spain - 9
Balearics - 17

Well I meant little harbours that might be tidal, but might have to skiddadle out. But not including different places up a river.

Mines mostly UK, bit of CI's and france. Also bits of Ireland and Scotland.

So just out of Interest

Which one stands out as the one you never ever care to see gain as long as you live....?
Could be a right dump/full of thieves/ ridiculously expensive or just plain scary to get into ?
So whats the worst in the UK,the continent and the Med.

By the way MainshipTom did you read the bit about Whitewater Wolfes in MBM this month.?

For me, Cherbourg and Le Havre vie for the biggest dumps in the E Channel. In the Med, Port St Louis is a good marina but the surrounding area is a mosquito infested swamp with the nearest town being a ****hole full of drunks and deadbeats. Further east, La Ciotat has nothing to recommend it
By far the most expensive place we have visited is Ibiza Town. We were charged €180/night back in 2004 for a 15m berth. I heard that was up to €375/night last season

Funny how tastes differ - couldn't agree more about Port St Louis but actually quite liked la Ciotat - the old harbour, not the new(ish) marina bit. Very gallic - great local restaraunts & bars. nice moorings on the old quay - we went back several times.
Worst harbour ever visited in UK - my vote is on Holyhead, Anglesey. Apologies to the strong NW Wales contingency on here! Didn't help that somebody nicked the outboard off my tender while I was in the yacht club having a meal. In fairness I gather they have tidied the place up a bit recently.
