Spent 18+hrs on scraping triple keeled Achilles 24 before being forced to give up due to lack of time; suspect this job hadn't been done for around 20 years, and the number of coats of antifouling meant it was very hard going. Chemical stripper appeared not to touch this incredible thickness of paint. Scraping was an absolutely hateful job--overalls and dust masks required, goggles strongly recommended and tiring in the extreme compared even to regular boat work... Every penny of money subsequently spent on blasting well spent, if you ask me!
I was able to get the boatyard to organise a blasting firm to come in and do several boats on the same day, thus reducing the cost quite substantially--worth asking if other boats are also scheduled to be blasted!
