How long to overhaul a Jabsco toilet?

I suspect we will all be using wet wipes one day - I see Andrex now advertise them - just watch out when the nations drains all overflow at the same time

I only have a small water tank and was away for a while, so washing my face with wipes saves water, I also use wipes for the cleaning the cooker and sinks but remember to put them in the bin.

Nice man at the sailing club suggested that I try using my dinghy pump to help shoot the blockage out, will try that tomorrow.

They are obviously banned on the boat, but also in my house: we have a septic tank. We also have bidets in two of the bathrooms, so wet wipes are really not needed.

I'm going off to wash my hands now.

I have had this problem twice in the last ten years although I do not have a holding tank. A new joker valve solved the problem on both occasions and, as already said, takes about ten minutes to fit. Certainly empty your system first, preferably after pumping through a strong discinfectant solution. I also changed to a "twist and lock" pump and again this is a simple job that should not take more than 20 minutes.

Not sure where you are buying your spares from, but the kit is usually around £27 and the complete pump around £60 - and a complete toilet only £100 (or less).

Try a Greek Chandler. Depending on the particular pirate sorry chandler. Twist and lock pump €90 to €120, lower transfer tube €30 to €50. Tube not supplied with 0 ring and bolts €16. Complete toilet, small bowl €190 to €240. I have just rebuilt two heads!

Just as an aside why do Jabsco supply the twist and lock pump unit with only 1 bloody screw when there are 4 required? I know that you take the 3 old ones out of the old unit but now I have two heads with 3 screws of one type and one of another!:confused::confused:

Jabsco apparently 'won't supply screws' according to local chandlers.

Exactly why I bought mine in Poole and put it in my hand baggage out to the boat in Corfu. The price differential is common with just about all chandlery type items in Greece. Only consolation is that it is probably worse in Italy and France. At current exchange rate 90 euros is £72 so not such a huge difference, but guess the 120 is more common.

Not sure which screws you are referring to. Don't recall any new screws required with mine.

Exactly what I would have done but this trip I had a 14.5 kg brand new gearbox in my hold baggage and 7 kilos of computing equipment in my carry on. There simply was no room and I was 1.5kg overweight on the hold stuff as well! :) :)
