How long to launch a trailer sailer?

[ QUOTE ]

Weaverfish..did you own 'Floosie'? She was at Rutland water a couple of months back and I had a good natter with the new owners who were really enjoying their sailing.

re: transom mast support. I've got to make one sometime..any hints and tips welcome

Hmm would be tricky without the pole!

Yes, Floosie was mine. Glad the new owners are happy with her. Great starter boat for them.

To make a mast support I used the rudder cassette fittings as an anchor point for a rectangular piece of stainless on to which we bolted a tube with a U shaped section at the top to support the mast on a roller. The backstay purchase supported it.

A better solution would have been to attached some sort of fitting to the push-pit to make it more solid, but I went for the easiest option of using the rudder fittings.

Thanks for that Weaverfish.

The rudder bolts are the obvious anchorage, but i was worried about damaging them with leverage, so i was trying to think up some way of triangulating the foot to give some fore/aft support as well. Winter thinking cap on.

Its remarkabley solid when trailing as the mast braces it up a treat - we use the pole downhaul to hold the other end of the mast down into the tabernacle. Under the bridgedeck on Flooise there is a harness securing point, so I had a short line running from there to the top of the mast support to hold the mast support upright when pushing the mast back to raise it.... the roller is a great help with that task and lets you do it singlehanded.
