On a recent overnight liftout we found that our saildrive gaiter was missing but were unable to source one at the time.

So, this means another liftout to fit a new one.

I am told that one should use Sikaflex to bond the new one onto the GRP hull.

Can anyone tell me how long I need to stay out of the water to allow the Sika to go off.

Cheers

Go to www.sika.co.uk/ind-search-products-start.htm
In the full text search box type in, marine handbook. This will take you to a page where you can view or download the handbook.
All the info you need in there.
Many people have used 'Bostik' contact adhesive with the edges of the rubber sealed with 'sikaflex' or something similar. Personally have used araldite but secret is in the preparation and allowing time to fully cure before going back to water.

As far as I’m aware sikaflex is not the thing for this job. Mine are both fitted with a contact adhesive (I used the Bostic variety that came with the seals) You just have to make sure that the hull and seal are well abraded, as it’s almost an instant adhesion there is no need to hang about before relaunching.
