did my cockpit locker lids in International Toplac as the ply was discoloured. only managed one coat over primer as rain was forecast. primer left for 24 hours, toplac left for 24 hours but when i put the lids back on the gloss was still soft and a large print was made by my sweatshirt where i had to lean on the lid to reach the nuts and washers underneath.

obviously i can put another coat on when the weather is better but as we walk on the lids how long should we leave it before going back to the boat?

Doesn't it say on the tin?
PS you'r going to need to rub down that mark, before any repainting.

I don't know about Toplac specifically, but if the lids were horizontal when you painted them, you'll have probably got a much thicker coat than you would (say) painting topsides. I often find (with paints and varnishes) that they take weeks to harden properly on horizontal surfaces.

It could be worse.

Mrs Boreades recently gave me instructions to improve the state of the heads, especially the toilet seat which had cracked and chipped paintwork. So I gave it a good coat of pure-white gloss paint. Except it was very slow drying and I wasn't around to warn her when she came back and took use of the facilities for the first time.

Me laughing at the white ring round her bum did absolutely nothing to improve the situation.

I may live to regret this.
