Something like 98% of all wooden boats ever made long gone and rotten, whilst 99%+ of all GRP boats still here.

Whoa! How long have f/g boats been around? And what about wooden ones? Maybe a factor of a hundred times difference. (Or a thousand....) I have no idea whether your numbers are correct, but even if they are I'm afraid they do nothing whatever to advance your argument....
