How long can we survive this weather???

Well, look on the good side. After a week or more of westerlies there is no North Sea inshore swell about.

Pick your opportunities, Saturday I was out for a daysail in Northumberland f3-5 and mild temperature.

I imagine the west coast has ferocious swell at the moment.

At risk of cheesing you all off, I going skiing fo a few days tomorrow. There's just been a HUGE dump of snow in the French alps and now its sunny.

Ah well someone has to do it.

See you LOSERS /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The snow ond cold maybe goes over northern Finland ?Here in the south it should stay warm still a few weeks according to the weather people. But of course a forecast is a forecast /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Scottish wind

Anybody else remember a bit from Billy Connolly's World Tour when he was on one of the northern island groups, and it was blowing a bit?

"I'm nae saying it's windy up here, but if I took a piss, haff an hower later there'd be some feller in Norway saying, "Hey, this rain tastes funny".

Even down here in the South East it has been chucking it down regularly. The big reservoir just up the road from me at Bewl Water, which the TV was showing to be near empty a few months ago is now nearly full. My garden is waterlogged, there is standing water on a lot of local roads because the drains can't take any more; but of course we still have a hosepipe ban in force. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I just can't believe that. Still a hose pipe ban? Amazing!

Imagine going into a bar and asking for a pint. The landlord says "sorry, I've got a leaking pipe in the cellar and I'm short of beer so you can only have a half: I'm still going to charge you for a pint though."

Isn't that what the water companies are doing, charging you for a full service which they are failing to provide - with the government's blessing?

By the way, why would you want to use a hose pipe in all this rain?

Sorry for the thread drift.

Nice.... thanks for that Cameron...

especially nice to know, given that i'll be on a flight in there first thing tommorrow morning....

(and my compulsory grumble..... got to be a the bloody airport in B'ham at about 6am in the morning..... grumble, whinge, moan......)

Tell me about it, spent have the day at Clyde Marina. The good ship Booby Trapper was Booked in for lift out today at 1pm. Didn't get it out till it was almost dark.

Why does it never look very windy in pictures?

A friend who was a weapons technician told me that. Earlier systems would have the missiles tracking the aircraft. Would really give you the willies if you had radar threat detection

I kid you not. You might not need to water the waterlogged garden, but the car could do with a wash, and using a hosepipe to do it is still banned.

Re: Scottish wind

I was just south of Ullapool yesterday and the waterfalls were going upwards rather than down. I jest not.

HOw about putting a few moorings in the back garden, you never know; if the rain doesn't stop you might be able to sail home.

Your right!. If there was some of the heat from this global warming I would be growing rice in my Paddy field of a garden. Well maybe a duck pond would be the alternative solution. I've never seen the ground so wet or saturated.
Is there no end to this misery.

Using aircraft of the Queen's Flight as radar targets of opportunity makes the telephone ring! No problem now she hasn't got any.

I see from your pic that Superstrath's is still in the water there, as is ours. Way things are at the moment, might be the safest place, given the wind...

Wish I'd removed the dodgers etc though....

You'll be glad to know they are making good use of the storm gates in the marina this year. Been closed more than open over the last few weeks I'll bet.
Probably why it looks so calm in the picture.
