There are 3 Rutland wind generators powering the lights to the AA phone boxes on the A55 in North Wales. The 2 most exposed ones on the top of the hill are trashed!

One has no blades left, the other has 2 blades smashed off. How windy does it have to be to do this? A couple of years ago we had a storm in Pwllheli that smashed the Rutland genny on the boat behind mine. The maximum gust was measured at 90 miles per hour.

Extremely....

..first the wind has to be strong enough to blow the sheep out of the farmer's bedroom then to carry it onto the generator.

Hope this helps.

Re: Extremely....

The rutland is not designed to withstand gale force winds.
I am suprised they bothered to fit them.
Only the Aerogen 4/6 can be fitted in areas that get high winds.
~not sure if they would withstand a sheep hit though.

Where abouts are they?

Not far from Holywell. They are on the bit of the road where you get a good view over the Dee Estuary as you drive along.

Don't know but a couple of years ago, shards of blade from the boat three along from mine were stuck well into the timber of the decking of my pontoon. It had been blowing over 50 but I'm very careful around marinas in anything over 35 knots now if I hear one of these things. Deadly, literally: should be locked off in marinas or banned.

Can't think of anything funny about Welshmen & sheep (odd combination!) but I can report that I had ( well still have in the garage) an Aerogen that took no damage at all even though it was on a boat on an exposed mooring in the middle of Poole |Harbour for 7 years and that included the year of the south coast hurricaine.
