How heavy a concrete block?

Beleza weighs in at 23 tons loaded, and I have been looking at the problems of laying a mooring.

I had a mooring in Holyhead, well known for its rough waters, the mooring was two large single fluke anchors of around 500 lb each, 30m of 25mm ground chain and 1/2 riser.

I'm re-using the ground chain and riser with a 30kg bruce on either end in the more benign waters of Faro, it should easily hold the boat, after all, I expect a 25kg cqr and 50m of 10mm chain to do the job when I'm out and about.

The benefit if the lighter mooring is that for me I should be able to raise it and move it should I need to. A sort of semi permanent mooring if you like.

I’m obsessed with a concrete block why couldn’t it be a Swan 65!

The idea of a great big lump (or series of lumps) on the sea bed appeals because it seems foolproof. I have not discounted the idea of the sea screws and I may go for them if the builder and diver can’t agree. I’ve also noted the names of a couple of ships calling at the town jetty with cranes. The master of one of them may be willing to undertake a small diversion for a reasonable sum of EC dollars.

Impact30's advice about the connection to the concrete block is sound. Several harbours in Greece have laid mooring blocks using rebar hoops cast into the concrete. Many of these have corroded through within two years, despite being 25 mm section or in some cases more. Casting really heavy ships' anchor chain, or some equally large, good quality steel, into the block should give you many years, assuming you can connect to it.
