Many of you have probably read this months PBO, so will know what I am on about, hopefully /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Are the photos in PBO actually genuine pics as received.... particularly the front cover. The yacht on the front cover this month looks to have an absolutely perfect hull with not a trace of dirt, slime, or a scratch. Is that really the case, or are PBO Photoshopping the photos for a better image?

Afraid so... its the way I've become. If it looks/sounds too good to be true... it probably is.

I just haven't seen a yacht without a mark on it....

Well here\'s a boat without a mark on it (mine!)

I'm sure they are. We went on a cruise in company with MBM back in 2000. Are boat was brand new (Not even antifouled). They took loads of pictures during the course of the week. Even now, 6 years later, pics keep turning up in various parts of the mag with the boat looking very shiny and new.

Would you be referring to the Sigma 38 with the bent pulpit?

Don't start me off about the articles inside either.

I have now had a look at the offending cover. And put it back on the shelf.
I would say that the highlights are simply burned out (out of gamut as the Photoshop boffins tell us) and the slight highlight detail is all rendered as white, so slightly grubby marks are not visible.
Although the water line does look very smart.

Hi Jonathon. All photographers for magazines seem to lie. The lies are mostly by ommission. Like the beautiful interior photos of yachts that never reflect the reality of people's gear being stored everywhere. Or the sails all being removed for the photo. My interior always seems to be chaos by comaparison. It s the same with gardening magazines where they can make an ordinary flower look magnificent or a yard look imaculate when in practice it is never so clean. Such is magazines that they are selling an elusive dream.

What a fantastic shine! Did you use Photoshop's Polish Gelcoat tool, or just go for the Spray Paint Fill option? Are you quite sure you have considered all the options?

And watch out for those Norwegian boathandlers

You never know what might happen. What's that lever that chap's pulling do?

Selling the elusive dream

You mean like this?

Day one: "Aft cabin's a bit untidy, but soon have her all ship-shape."

Day twentyone: "I know it's a mess, but at least it's my mess."
