Thinking of changing from sail to mobo
I found several boats can any give an idea of the fuel consumption for:

Volvo TMD 110 diesel
Yamaha 5.7 liter V8 260hp petrol
Mercruiser 4.3 Liter V8 170hp petrol

90hp perkins diesel

The reason im asking i had an idea i used to calculate 1 liter fuel per HP but clearly that's wrong no one would buy a mobo with a pair or 260hp V8s or 380hp ive seen if they used 520 liters per hour or more

Engines consume fuel in a direct relation th number of hp you demand. Explained here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_specific_fuel_consumption

If you enter into calculations remember to factor in the density of the fuel in question: 737 for petrol and 840 for diesel
Therefore 2x380 hp produced will burn a lot whereas the same engine delivering a fraction of that power will take a fraction of the fuel.

As in a car decision is made at the throttle.

Chalk and Cheese ?

Both those petrols would probably only be fitted to speedboats or fast fishers with very limited range, ideal for fast day trips and not very useful if you extended cruising
Economical ...nope,purely designed to give as much power as possible.
The diesels mentioned would be much more economical and sensible for longer distances and you could also probably get diesel at your destination unlike petrol which can be hard to find..

Also important to consider the availability of petrol - or usually the lack of it. (edit ....sorry already said while I was not looking)

You state wide range of engines . Do you have a particular type of motorboat in mind?

If its a 4.3 Merc it will be a V6 not a V8.
As a guide my 5.7 V8 260hp Mercruiser uses 34 lph at 3000rpm and 24knts, and 70lph at 4600rpm and 36kts, guess what speed I drive at the most!
This is on a 24ft, 1 1/2 ton weekend cruiser.

The fuel consumed depends much more on the load demanded rather than the particular engine. Petrol engines will use more than diesel engines for the same demand, maybe up to 50% more? Some of the new lean burn outboards apparently can get close to diesel economy cruising.

Two diffeeant boatss. One is an albacore with a pair of diesels. The othere a fast run about, imm looking at an invader seems to be a good day boat/weekend cruiser 30kts crusing 49kts flat out im told

im not dure how reliable an in board six pot or the V8 mercruiser is? There are others with an outboard 150hp for example perhaps thats better??
