How does one begin a book club in school?

I am a high school teacher wanting to begin a book club or a poetry club for students.I think I want to start out with the book club first.What is the best way to get this created and you know how i can get books for free.Or will the kids have to buy the books if they want to join.ANy ideas would be helpful.remember these are kids.

With current attitudes to funding extra curricula activities, I would guess that the best bet is to "charge" students with bringing a book as their subscription. Go see a few charity shops, many of them have moore books that they know what to do with - altho the quality will not be up to much as the good ones will sell easily.
