How does NBS get away with this highly spun drivel?

I have jusr received this in an email from the BMF reference National Boat Shows and activity outside the Earl's Court venue:

National Boat Shows has received a number of questions concerning activity that we are undertaking outside the Earls Court Boat Show. The specific concerns we have had are relating to the legality of the work, the approach being taken and whether it is counter productive.

National Boat Shows would like to reassure the industry that the activity being carried out is being done so with appropriate licences and in consultation with the local Kensington and Chelsea Council. In addition to the formal arrangement the team is only approaching those visitors exiting Earls Court.

NBS is committed to actively marketing the benefits of the Collins Stewart London Boat Show to an active show going audience. Exhibitors sign up to shows on the understanding that a certain level of marketing will take place to attract an audience, and this is one way of trying to achieve this. In addition, a new show at the London Boat Show's old venue may well cause some consumer confusion and NBS has to work to mitigate against this possible confusion.

As well as the handing out of fliers, NBS has bought some 48 sheet advertising hoardings around the venue. This activity has been designed to communicate the benefits of the Collins Stewart London Boat Show to visitors and generally promote the Show to a wider audience. We have also contracted a market survey company to question people leaving the ECBS to gain even more of an understanding of what Show visitors want.

I can't believe the bare arrogance of this lot who have spent the summer/autumn rubbishing the ECBS and its founders.

Time for a reviving tot, methinks, to calm down the furies. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I posted this the other day, I understand marketing but have you ever seen Tesco's representatives outside Asda stopping their exiting customer's?

.................................................................................
I heard this morning from one of the other exhibitors that when they left they went to the underground station and were 'approached' by a 'lady' asking if he had just left the boat show!

He answered that he had.

He was then asked if he knew that the show he had just attended was not ...'the official one'!

He answered that he hadn't known, and was then asked if he would answer a three page questionnaire and on completion was given two free tickets for the Excel BS!!!!

Who do the panel believe was behind this???

Dirty tricks eh?

Who is running scared?

This boat Show at EC was put together for the boating community by the industry as requested.

Beggars belief.

..............................................................................

Mad eh?

How would Excel be feeling when or if EC marketed outside their venue? All very silly IMHO.

That's gobbledyspeak for they want to get rid of their competitors because they don't want the public to have a choice.

I wish the Earls Court lot well.

(Sigh.....)
I went to EC. It was OK, I had a nice day out. Met a few old friends, had a good natter, looked at a few things, didn't buy anything boaty at all.
I shall go to Excel. I shall have a nice day out there too. I'll expect meet a few old friends there as well, have a beer or two, look at a few more things and probably spend a bit of money.
I think I've learned to relax about it all really.............

Not sure I understand the problem with this really. I can think of the customer survey's having possibly 2 purposes :

1) To see if the majority of people think EC is good or not. I suspect if the answer is generally "not" then they will conclude to do nothing and carry on as before as there is no competition.

2) If the majority think its good then to find out why it is good and therefore you would hope use that input to improve their show.

It would be a bit different if they were hanging around in front trying to tempt visitors to EC into buses to excel, but surely asking the customer what they want and like cant be a bad thing? Likewise advertising their show to visitors of EC sounds like just good business as they know the people visiting EC at this time are the people most likely to be interested in their product.

We have had one LBS and one SBS before this show do you think that the organisers of EC stayed away from both the NBS shows?

Just a question before you shoot me down.....but I know the answer...

Isn't it comforting to be fought over? The very essence of a healthy market - one that's offering us greater choice, different venues, formats, etc

What do we, as consumers conclude? Something along the lines that no show has got or will ever get a monopoly hold on our interests and commitment, but that competition to achieve this elusive domination will produce variations in offering and fresh ideas that can only be to our advantage.

Viva el mercado!

just got in from the show met several forum memebers all of which were extremle nice and had a very good and informative chat....but for the one guy who spoke to the staff like that you aint getting any free beer....

Oh well. "My Boatshow is better than your boatshow" will make a change from "My anchors better than your anchor" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Who knows we might start to see, 'who's boatshow can be dragged through the sand more easily', videos, or "Our boatshow is better cos we've got boats on show." type posts with the character assasinations ets we have so come to love, How about, "My Boatshow is best if you have a sandy bottom" as a suitable title to get the ball rolling? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I imagine the EC organisers were none too pleased, but so what...? The LIBS show is coming up in a few weeks, I'm sure they will return the favour should they so wish. All this does is show that all publicity is good publicity.

This sort of thing happens all the time. Specially when a new store opens.

I can't see what people are getting hot under the collar about. If I had a competitor starting up I'd want to know what the punters thought too. I'd also take some defensive action to protect my own patch - it would be commercial madness not to.
