Neither can I /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif....why don't you have a proper look around, before jumping in at the deep end? There are hundreds of nice little motor boats for sale. some needing a bit of work, some not. Many are what could be considered "Classics"....Is this ally hull rivetted or welded? If it's the former, you could be in for an interesting time /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Been looking on and off for two years but no other boat has felt right. This one is Arc Welded.....but I will still get someone who knows aluminium to survey it!

If you want a boat to use and enjoy, buy plastic and diesel.
If you don't want depreciation buy at least 5 years old, and probably nearer 10.
If you like to tinker on a permanent basis and you want a beautiful old lady, buy a traditional boat. It wont specifically depreciate but will be difficult to sell at any price, until another person like you comes along. They do still exist but are rare!!

If the decks have gone be sure not to forget the cost of refitting the insides - the originals weren't too smart when this boat was built. Aluminium hulls are notoriously difficult to survey - so be careful of this too.

Might this be one of two prototype Brooke Marine Ocean Pirates? I think you'll find the original engines were Daimler V8 petrols! I fear by the time you've included transportation costs, the boat will be virtually worthless. Old Frank

It may well be possible that the boat is LESS than worthless - if you got her for free and then fixed it up you could well still be out of pocket in regard to her value..........of course if you <u>want</u> her - this may not be a problem............

Be very Careful .. I took an informed punt on a delightful classic Arthur Robb yacht with a suspect BMW 35HP diesel. Only after purchase did I find that I probably had one of only a handful of the said engines in the Southern Hemisphere. Parts were near impossible to acquire if I had the squillions needed to buy them. Re-powered with a stock standard engine and now enjoy the sailing. Good luck. I still regret not restoring that delightful piece of German engineering but I suspect it's a state Classic lovers find themselves in at every turn.

The Hull and decks are aluminium and seem sound. The external woodwork is all shot (including cabin sides) but so far the boat is still reasonably dry inside (considering it has been left for 10 years) Main issue is to strip out and replace all Systems, then get the cabin structures sorted then consider cosmetics.

Yep, a very big job that will take at least a year of my time. In terms of value, she may well be worth less than the sum of her parts but I intend to do this to keep her as a Thames and East Coast boat. In terms of the engines, they need the installation tidying up and usual parts replaced but they are tuff as old boots, have very little use and should (fingers crossed) be servicable. The engine room has been water tight and well ventilated and the engines have very little rust on them and are still nicely painted with Lancing Marine Green! (my 4 year old Kad 32 looks in a worse state).

One of the big advantages of a boat like this is that she would be up to modern standard with a sound hull. The Aluminium should easily last another 45 years if looked after. I would have to tinker with a few design details, however the interior front cabin layout had an optional layout which I prefer, so I would put it back to that.

So I have now costed it out...and in order to reduce the risk she is only worth a few thousand...maybe 3 at the most. I do not think the owner will take this but I will put it too him. If not I am now happy to walk away.
