This winter we spent in a marina, a new experience for her. At the end of it we did agree we will miss the soc ability of it (what a friendly bunch you are).

We will not miss the cost of summer berthing rates ..

Either way we where on berth No 18 and as boat owners do we admired the boats. Then looked closer how do you  it became a fascination, I did not take any of these photos at the finger end, just from main pontoon...

I will just number and leave you to comment one of them is mine...

5a&b are the same bat and all the bats are 35 foot+

TBH, all of them look a bit like a dog's dinner, no offence ....

Either too much or too little line around the cleat, doubled up lines (one line - one purpose ....) worn permanent lines, do I need to go on?

Having said all that I moor my 23' fishing boat with one long line which gives me two springs and plus a fore and aft line.

If that was the standard of the dogs dinner the dog would rightly bite me. Time for some yacht owners to partake of the much maligned RYA courses to learn good ways. Hopefully the standards at sea are better than the ones used in mooring up?

I love No16, meet them types on any visitors pontoon, done so nobody else can moor up, nice to see that he/she practises on their own pontoon. ;) :D

What a mess! I try to avoid having my power cable share a cleat with a line. I have a fear of it getting snagged and causing trouble as well as getting damaged.

My permanent mooring is shackled but when I am visiting, usually a simple loop though and back to the boat. Sometimes I pass a loop through the cleat and over, to minimise chafe.

Surely it's 13 that does that? With 16 you could probably poke a line through the middle of the cleat, below all their turns, and make a bowline.

I once saw a 27 foot powerboat in ocean village that was tied up with five lines that went to the pontoon and back 17 times.

I do love seeing boats that have been properly stitched to the dock.

None of the above. (but med mooring).

Hook it over and then add one simple loop round the cleat - made off back on the boat.
Doubles the breaking strain of the line.

To leave, quick pull, remove loop so the line can run free and you can cast off from on-board.

Never wind the leccy cable round the cleat in case someone else puts another line on and nips through the insulation.

They are all yachts just some are motor yachts, gin palaces or stink pots depending on your view point.

Edit to add that these are the inboard end of finger pontoons, so very unlikely to have to share these cleats.
