How do you mount companionway stairs?

I added self-adhesive non-slip strips to our steps. My wife objected on aesthetic grounds but soon came to realise how much more secure they are, on unvarnished wood.

May be a bit late, but I much prefer steps which are curved upwards at the ends, as these are much easier to use at sea when the boat is heeled.

I thought of that and it would not have been hard. Maybe laminating 3 or 4 pieces of thin marine ply over a curved former?

A bit late now Clive but the curved steps (not flat but higher at the sides) are really excelent when boat is on a heel. ol'will

That's what I plan to do on my next yacht.?

Maybe some wedge shapes side pieces would help? (I'd make them larger than the ones pictured)
Maybe that would be a good step?
