How do you mark your anchor warp

We tie a piece of 2 mm braided polyester around a foot long to the chain at each 10m mark. At 10m we put one knot (substantial) in it half way down its length, 2 knots an inch apart at 20m, 3 at 30m etc. etc. We then spray paint the chain with dayglo orange paint for around half a metre each side of the markers and another small spray at each intervening 5m. The paint obviously flakes off to some extent but is easily visible for several seasons. The pieces of string are remarkably resilient and pass through the windlass without problem - I think on our last boat we lost one marker in 15 years.

Cheap and cheerful but does the job and we like the system as there is very little brain power needed to count the knots if it is a bit wild and windy during anchoring.
