How Do You Know When Your Boat is Overloaded?

Other than the capacity plate on most smaller vessels, how are you supposed to know how much weight is too much? Here's one way to keep safe: Estimating Safe Passenger Load.

Unfortunately the overloading of boats is not uncommon. A good time to start worrying is when the boat rolls very slowly (roll interval reduces); a sure indication of reduced stability. "Let's have a party on board. Great views from the flybridge. Lots of tears."
