Used to have the highest mast in the area with double spreaders on a catamaran which is a target difficult to miss. Now I have a MoBo I don't get Seagull poo at all!! My advice is "always park next to a boat with a bigger mast. It's like meeting a bear in the woods, you don't have to run faster than the bear, just faster than the guy you are with!

I've tried CDs - only partially successful and cause stress to those folk who are affected by flashing lights.
I've seen rubber snakes, owls etc - no long term success.
The only totally successful methods that I've seen are a:- the rotating sweeps, but they only stop birds landing on the area covered by them and b:- overall netting - this has always been a total success for us but is such a pain to fit and undo that we've given up and resign ourselves to regular cleanups. Hey Ho!!

I live on this (pic taken in 2005)

When I repainted, I did the main fore, aft and side decks grey, the wheel house and aft superstructure white...

Seagulls only carp on the white wheel house and superstructure  not the grey bits

I use a combination of CD discs and "humming tape" (garden centre) - a bit like the tapes from the old music cassettes. Seems to stop them landing but does not prevent an airborne high level bombing run.

The fouling on my boat is on the flybridge tonneau so I tried tying a small length of plastic bunting between the vhf aerial and the radar tower. With it being plastic it makes a noise in the wind, seems to work quite well.I have tried one of those 'windsock' type childrens beach toys on the radio aerial, that worked quite well but as you would expect didn't last long.Don't you just hate it when you see people feeding the damn things?

Don't know if this works, but owls don't. Rubber snakes worked for me. Grey coachroof and deck was better than white.

I'm a bit dougbtful whether it'd work with the birds in our region. I spent part of last Saturday trying to scare off a starling perched at the top of Sunrunner's mast - jumping about and waving my arms had no effect on it at all, nor did rattling the shrouds and halyards. Little beggar knew exactly what the odds were of me climbing the mast to get him :D

As you can see from the vid, the lake was very calm. I haven't been down to see it in the 40mph winds we had yesterday. It may have taken off........
