Hello everyone

I am trying to track down a boat (a Phillipa 27) that my father used to own if anyone might be able to help. I have old sail numbers from photos and I'm sure there is lots of other information that would be in our records too. I was only young in 1991 or thereabouts when she was sold but I have been trying to find what happened to her for sometime now, and thought that maybe a forum might be able to help.

The boat I am trying to find was once kept in Torpoint near Plymouth and at the time was called Two sons but that undoubtly would have changed to something else but she was red in colour and it seems once came up for sale about 5 years ago in the Plymouth area as can be seen on this web page
http://plymouth.boatshed.com/phillipa_27-boat-62714.html

I did try and contact the broker but they were unable to help me and could only tell me that it had been withdrawn from sale.

So can anyone make any suggestions is there a way to track down a boat or has anyone seen or know of this boats location?

I would be really grateful for any help anyone could give me.

I do hope someone can help

amazing to see that over one hundred people have looked at the post, but disappointed to see that no one has any idea on how to track down a yacht or have any suggestions :(

If the broker says it was withdrawn from sale surely they know who withdrew it ??
Also is the guy you spoke to the same guy who took the photos who's name Dave Peart is at the bottom, he might remember a contact??
Was she SSR? is yes try that as it might have been updated to the present owner??
My best guess is she did not move far!

Good luck

I'm not. Its a bit like trying to find a car without a registration plate. I think your only hope would be if someone here knew what the name changed to. ( I'm only assuming it was re-named but i imagine it would have been seeing as it was quite a personal name)
The only 'Two Sons' registered on AIS is a 24m fishing vessel.
CG might help but i doubt it with data protection. Ask if it was CG66 and had a name change.Again, its a long shot.
And this might be some help- https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/davedave86

Thanks for the reply, I was told that the boat was withdrawn from sale by the owner who decided to keep her in May 2009 by boatshed and they couldn't help me any further. One good point is that I do remember a SSR number on the boat near the front. is this searchable?

thanks for the good suggestions

Peter,

one tip; red is a terrible colour for grp, it fades and ' chalks 'badly with sunlight, especially the pigments used in the days the Phillipa was built.

She may well be painted a different colour now.

Good luck in your search.

I'd ring the broker back and ask them if they can remember/are able to tell you where it was lying in 2009 when it was put up for sale. I would reckon it's quite likely still there. As someone says above, was the broker you spoke to the Dave Peart who inspected it in 2009, or not? If not, can you find him? Failing that start driving arond the larger yards in Plymouth. It was obviously lying amongst lots of other boats and one of the broker's pictures has some landscape in the shot which you may be able to identify. Good luck.

No the SSR is not searchable by number. There is no requirement to register a boat anywhere so it is not surprising you are having difficulty. The only way is to follow ownership trails, but that relies being able to actually find the individuals. with a more common boat, owners associations can be helpful, but probably not in this case.

This has just occurred to me as an extremely long shot; there are only a handful of marine insurers, I wonder if asking around if anyone had a Phillipa on their books, explaining why, might work ?

Ditto for sailing clubs, presumably in the SW.

In both cases I'd avoid e-mails as they're too easily missed, lost or ignored, try to speak to a real human.

Correct:
IF she is still on Part III (SSR) the MCA will have the owners details but probably will not/should not give them to you. She may well no longer be registered at all.

Part I reg boats (again if still registered) you can pay and get an ownership check - called a Transcript of Registry. Part I most unlikely if she had an SSR number. It can be VERY difficult and often impossible to trace ownership. This forum is probably your best chance - someone may know where she is. Then it's down to legwork and asking around.

I'm confused by this. You say it came up for sale 5 years ago but was withdrawn. Yet in a post 2 years ago you said it was sold in Feb 2013 - http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?360729-Phillipa-27-Sailing-Yacht

So if you want help, maybe you have to reveal a bit more of what you know.

Hi.
Im sorry if it sounds like im miss leading anyone, quite simply i made a mistake as i thought the sale date was what date was listed on the photos but it seems they had updated automatically with that watermark date. When i contacted the brokerage they gave me a different date or sale or date that it was withdrawn from sale.

Truly thanks for all the help so far i have some more digging to do and a few boat yards to go and visit with crossed fingers

Pete

If it's any help, I remember looking at a Phillipa 27 for sale through Boatshed at about that time. It had a burgundy red hull and was ashore at Blagdons yard adjacent to the Mayflower marina. Sorry to say, but I have no further information.
