how do you describe your boat

I used to say boat, they generally assume canal boat, now I just call it a boatavan. That confuses the hell out of them, ".... floating caravan" Is the prompted followup.
Well it didnt move over the weekend just like towyn

Some brilliant responses so far. So often experienced by me too.

I like telling people who ask that it is a 30' Ketch as if they should know what that means. Of course they don't, but very few will admit it, you can see their eyes change ever so slightly, a pause in the conversation, then on to something less challenging. Until you find yourself talking to a dinghy racer who will assume it is all stripped out for racing round the buoys every weekend.

"Where do you keep it?" is a neat question, because many assume it will be on a trailer in the garden or similar - if not the local canal or nearby lake sailing club. Telling them it's in Caernarfon Harbour opens up another raft of questions about how far we go - which is generally to the nearest beach with limited road access for a booze & snooze.

I was in Dublin and I had left the the blimmin tv and blue ray on standby for the last 3 weeks. (they have a seperate isolator) Who'd have thought that standby would kill a bank of 3 x 135 Ah house batteries to 0 volts. Ouch! So I was on the boat with an engineer who lightened my wallet by close on £800. Expensive lesson. I should've gone to Dublin in the boatavan. Their waterways are magnificent. Saw this too...

Tell 'em how much fuel it uses, that'll totally phase 'em
Oh, and have you been to France in it?
We went to Cuba last year on our hols and was genuinely asked if we we were going on our boat!
