My furling line for the head sail needs changing.
I thought it would be one of those simple, quick jobs but looking at it has me baffled.
I have the Hood Seafurl 5 system where the end of the furling line goes inside the the core and appears to be tied off in there.
I don't want to end up in a world of ball bearings so please can anyone tell me how to change the furling line on this system.
I have searched and cannot find anything.
Thanks

I have a selden unit and the line is secured in the core of the drum. Means taking a few items off and then 'splitting' the drum by easing out the clips. I would be surprised if taking the drum of your unit releases the bearings.

edit - I have had a quick look and the hood web site does not give much. It would seem others have had this problem and end up contacting hood or Pompanette for instructions, etc

there is a hole in the bottom drum guide that the line passes through & stopper knot on the underside of the drum guide.
you should be able to feel the stopper knot

I would presume I have to take the two screws out the top of the stainless steel guard and the hexagonal bolts from below just to get the guard off. when this is off I presume I have to split the core just to get at the line.. is this right.

I have the Hood Seafurl and as Sailorman says there is a hole in the bottom drum and stopper knot works OK.I have a 8mm line on mine with core taken out for about half the line which goes on the drum.It makes handling easier and the drum doesn't get overloaded and jam.

Do you have to remove the stainless steel cover?

has your fairlead bust off yet .
i take the inner core out for 3 m or so to reduce the volume of reefing line on the drum

I have now got the manual for the Seal Furl 5 system sent to me in PDF from USA.
It describes everything including fitting the furling line which it says should be partly de cored.
If anyone wants a copy of the manual just PM me with your e mail and I will forward it.
Thanks for your help.
