I need to service the pump, or more likely, replace it.
But, the kits/pumps available state not suitable for the 2000 series.
As my boat is over 30 Years old, there's a fair chance it is a 2000 and not the 29045. How can I tell? from googling images, they all seem to look the same and, of course, there are no numbers at all on my heads.
Are there any identifying differences?

EDIT: Yes, sorry, Jabsco unit.

Assuming you're talking about the Jabsco... it's generally identified by colours of handle/lever and the shape of the front of the pump top housing (e.g. flat or curved).

Although you do have to bear in mind that people have sometimes changed the pump handle for one the wrong colour in the past - Handles tend to fit other models.

If you're buying from a local chandlery then perhaps you could buy both packets and then get money back on the one that doesn't fit.. or swap that afterwards for another kit with the right parts in for future use. The packets usually have a picture on the front so you can compare with shape/colour of your current setup.

Annoyingly, I was down at the boat before posting this to get reference numbers. I didn't think to take a picture as they all "look the same" but I'm sure it's not Black and chrome.

The alternative is to buy a new "twist & lock" pump unit which I think fits all models. Cleghorn Waring should be able to offer advice as distributors.

I must admit that was the plan, from researching on here that seems the most secure option, and it does look as if the twist and lock will fit them all anyway. I'll investigate further.

Right, for the benefit of anyone else searching the forums,according to Jabsco themselves, the new twist 'n' lock assembly does fit the 2000 series as well. It's confusing though, as the description implies that it's for the more modern toilets only.
Although it's probably cheaper to buy the complete thing and sell the bowl, I'm one of those people who manages to pay an absolute premium for everything then manages to sell at a huge loss so it's probably not the safest option for me!
The new pump assembly was £57.00, so not too bad really, and it looks a very simple fit.

A tip, when replacing the pump unit, take care fitting the screws. Make sure they go in with finger pressure for several turns so you are certain they are not cross threaded. This can happen easily and wrecks the base so that you cannot take the pump out again.
 
As abovectake care when refitting the screWS.

If you turn them gently backwards you will be able to feel when they drop into the start of the thread

If it does happen, and the screw holes strip, it's not a big job to tap them out to 8mm, and fit studs instead. Makes a better job.
 
If the threads do get stripped, and they do! and if you don't want to buy a new base then if you drill through (interference size) and insert brass flanged rivnuts from underneath and use machine screws to replace the originals you may extend the serviceable life a bit longer.
 
Thanks all, fingers crossed I'll be able to fit the thing without damaging the threads, but if I do, then all is not lost.

But, the repair kit was £30.00 odd, the twist 'n' lock replacement is an upgrade of sorts (bare with me here, I'm justifying yet more payout) so it kind of makes sense to get an upgrade for a few quid more. The bowl and lid are fine so I'm saving a few quid, plus the environment by not replacing the whole thing? plus, just the pump must be an easier replacement I would've thought? (hoped?)
Joker valve...I have no idea what that is. Off to Google, again...

EDIT: OK, the joker valve sits in the new pump assembly, so presumably it will come with the new pump. Phew!
