I have a Volvo-Penta 120s saildrive with a 2 blade folding prop.
I need to remove the prop to replace the ring anode, How do I do this?
I can remove the two hex nuts with appear to be securing the blades- I assume I need to remove the blades - how?
Then what???
Any help would be much appreciated! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Remove the cap screws which hold the blade pins in, then tap out the pins keeping hold of the blade, as it will come off as soon as the pin is out. Inside the end of the hub is a large nut, this is either held on with another grub screw, in the nut flange, or a tab washer. Undo the nut and if all has been properly maintained and greased, the hum will slide off the shaft.

One caution. The only electrical link from the ring anode to the leg is the two screws. If these screws are not screwed in tight enough then you can get the anode eaten away around the bolt heads and the anode comes loose causing a rattle. VP admit this is a problem and any VP engineer will confirm it. Some owners put a dab of antifoul over the screw head to prevent this. I don't know if it works or if there is a better solution.

For goodness sake stop now and look at the 'volvo penta 120s instruction leaflet'. Yes for folding blades. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You obviously have never worked on a folding prop fitted to a 120 saildrive! The leaflet is a universal job for folding and fixed props which do have a split pin. Pray tell us all how you get a split pin into a shaft end which is completely covered by the retaining nut inside the prop hub. The end of the shaft does not extend beyond the nut. If you are going to proffer your expert opinion on the forum I suggest a little real life experience is a prerequisite

Thanks to all who have posted,

I have remove the split pin and the locking nut ( which was quite difficult to remove from the hub as it is captured in the hub assemble but was able to angle this off), there is a stianless steel washer behind where the locking nut was but will be unable to take this off until the hub is removed,

Remember this?
