Hi
I know this is probably a very basic question but i am new to sailing so please be patient. I managed to capsize my inflatable tender at the weekend whilst renewing my mooring ropes and ended up in the oggin. This of course caused my lifejacket to inflate automatically and i now need to re arm it. I've never done this before so any advice please?

If you Google "Crewsaver lifejacket rearming" you will find links to the crewsaver website and re-arming instructions for their various models of lifejacket.

The good news is that its really easy! Just make sure that you order the correct re-arming kit (it could be Hammer or Standard Automatic; 150N or 275N). So long as you read the model no when ordering the instructions included are really clear and easy to follow. Buy 2. It will happen again!

I fired off two of our life jackets this year since they were past their correct dates. Replacing them was reasonably easy if you follow the instructions. In side the replacement pack is a small tool, for releasing the old unit, which gets stuck between the paper pieces; so look for it since it makes the job easier:-)

I found that carefully reading the instructions and laying the pieces out for a 'dry run' the first time helped. The only awkward bit once the cylinder is in the jacket and trying to connect and twist the facing plate to ensure the connections are tight.

Testing by manual inflation sets your mind at rest that the job has been done correctly.

Thanks for all the info guys, i have to admit it was quite a scary situation and a great relief when the life jacket auto inflated. Its good to know these things work so well. Getting back on board was a real nightmare and an experience i wouldn't wish on any one. I've learnt a lot of lessons and thats what i love about sailing, it forces you to think problems through and be self reliant.

I am not sure which re arming kit you will need, mine are United Molders, but have a look on the web for ARCO or Greenhams tools. Both are suppliers of industrial equipment including life jackets and re-arming kits and are half the cost of chandlers. I mention both because I cant remember which I used last time.

Best Regards

HF

Ours came with a CD with a video demo of how to do it. It is mostly self-explanatory anyway one you have hold of the re-arming kit
