How do I calibrate a Volvo Trim Angle Display after sorting the relay?

I have a KAD44 with I believe a DP(?) leg and have had some trouble with the up and down relays. The terminals were corroded and I have now cured this and the leg moves up and down OK.
However the display now reads 1 degree when trimmed right in and stops when it reaches 6 degrees. Should it be starting at a negative value ( I am sure it was -2 originally ). Also is 6 degrees the cut-off value before the beaching position or is it linked to the physical position of the leg?
In other words, do I only have 5 degrees of range now? Hope that this makes sense and would like to know how to reset it, if that is possible?

sure its the same with the kad44s, but I think you have to adjust the potentiometer which sits on top of transom sheild inside the boat.
there is a clip with a 12 or 13mm bolt which need slackening off then you can move the potentiometer round and have someone check the dial as you adjust it.

its a bit fiddly but quiet easy to do

Cheers Ians,
I will have a look tommorrow if it is not raining! Do you know if 6 degrees is the "magic" number that controls the need to start beach mode?
I am right in that it can show negative values for when the leg is trimmed in?
Thanks
Jim

+6 I think is beach mode, not sure if you are twin engine or not, I have twins and when legs are fully trimmed in it shows a -4 on the trim gauge

Hope this helps

If it's like the KAD43 there is no adjustment. The potentiometer "keeper" is a fork that locates onto the potentiometer moulding.......unless i have it completely wrong of course.
Are you sure you haven't got another problem, like the hood rack has slipped on the pinion of the sender which would cause the problem you describe.

Are you sure the 43s will not adjust ? if you slacken off the bolt holding the fork on top of the potentiometer you can turn the potentiomiter to adjust the trim on the gauge, then re-tighten in position

I had the problem of the rack slipping on the pinion due to barnacle build up so as a temporary "codge" I adjusted the potentiometer. The only way I could get rotation was to bend one of the fork legs away from the moulding so it was only retained by one part of the fork (which was not great but did the job) I can't see how I would have missed an easier option but must be possible because you've done it..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks everyone for the tips, I had a look at the access to the potentiometer and decided that there were not enough room to get at it easily. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
So I went for the easy option of a quick lift and adjusted it on the leg. I was suprised how much lateral movement there was on the rotating part, is this normal, I would have thought that it could skip out of the rack quite easily?
