Thanks for all the advice, which has given me a better idea of the job and a few pitfalls to avoid... specifically not drilling through the halyards which is the kind of stupid thing I might do ?
My bosuns chair which I think is a Seago one has a semi rigid seat so that it does not pinch you, and it came in a fabric bag which doubles as a deep tool bag to take up with you. Its far better than a bucket as nothing will fall out of it.
No it is dead easyIf you forget it can be very difficult to explain to someone what you want.

No it is dead easyyou shout down to the deck hand " I forgot the F..ing duralec - stick it in the bag please & get a b..y move on because I do not want to be here all day"
Just take the key to the toilet block with youI have to be a careful how I shout instructions to my crew when up the mast, due to her threats of leaving me up there![]()
Put a depth stop on the drill bit to prevent it from going to far into the mast. A couple of rounds with tape is usually good for this purpose.Be careful not to let the drill enter too far when it breaks through, there may be light cables behind. Final alignment is via the setup menu.
