I am using Ubuntu 12 and find that when people post really large (pixels) pictures the whole wiritng of the posts exceeds the screen size and to read all the writing I have to move the bar along at the bottom for each line.(to get bergining and end of line)
Is this inevitable or can I adjust something to give a wider YBW forum screen. Grateful for help olewill

change screen resolution say if your res' is 1024x768 change aspect and res to say 1366 x 768 or whatever your monitor will take you might have to change screen refresh rate

Nothing you can do, setting the magnification will just make the text smaller. Perhaps if people realised that 800 pixels wide is a sensible limit, the problem would go away.
So you asking me to re-size the images before posting.
Would most certainly stop me from posting pictures.

I use Google Chrome and it's able to re-size the pictures inside the posts..
Printscreen of my desktop with Chrome open with a forum picture

Same with a slightly lager window

Here I have the browser window in full screen mode, and I have pressed ctrl+ to increase the text size - notice the picture.. :)

Have you tried different browser - Google Chrome is available on Ubuntu :)

I set Photobucket to upload at a suitable size ... usually, as nigel suggests, 800 wide for pictures destined for forum use

If adjusting picture size to a suitable one was sufficient to stop me posting pictures i think I'd take up crochet a something instead.

+1
This is a regular complaint of mine while aboard and using an atom-powered netbook, Win7 and both Firefox and IE10 to keep the Amps down for sailing. When meeting threads with big pics and text running off the screen I bail and do not revisit that thread - other than this one ...

I always re-size to 800 pixels - plenty big enough and detailed. I would have thought the forum software could do that and save bandwidth.

Sorry for my useless posts ;)
I use photobucket also, use my pictures for other purposes also, so you really think I should keep a separate set for YBW?

Yes, I prefer sailing - but feel I can contribute when people ask questions where I have some practical knowledge,

I may even pay good money to the RNLI to see you doing crochet! ;)

I too use Pbucket for other purposes. Pictures for forum use are ( mostly) uploaded at a suitable size into a series of sub albums for that purpose. duplicates of few pictures are uploaded into other subalbums maybe at a differnt size as well for other uses.

I try to manage my phobucket albums and the sizes of the pictures according to the intened use rather than expect other forum users to frig about modifying their browser magnification or what ever.

I must concede that I liked to be able to use the clickable thumbnil facility. It enable a lrge picture to be posteed when appropriate without sodding up everybody's display. Sadly the powers that be a Time Warnker have decide we should no longer be able to mak euse of this facility.... PITA

Sorry cannot be bothered correcting the spelling. Yuo can do that.
