I "have" to go to Arcachan.I cant sail there just now as its to far bay sea!!And takes to long via canal & would be a pity to rush!

I "cant" or rather dont want to drive there as at the moment my landrover would use to much expensive petrol (1.40 to 1.60 euros for just ONE liter!! She uses 1 gallon for about 18 miles)

I looked at the TGV which in the past ive found tickets from 11 euros to Paris & about 15 euros to Bordeaux for the last two days voyages-sncf.com whatever i put in it simply rejects and say "look at their departures"

I tried from sunday to wensday at every time on their site from Paris to Arcachan or Bordeaux

I found a belgium site an USA site and the UK site they all work but i cant pay or reserve from France? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Life never used to be so complicated!I much prefer the old way.Id sit in my cockpit pour a glass of local stuff, put the SSB on check the weather then if it was OK id leave by boat,to Bordeaux last time it took me about a month to get there & that was very fast!

Today i "have" to be there best before tuseday wensday(next) as i have to be back on Friday mid day.

The pressure & pace of life as the foot touches the treadmill /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Anyone any suggestion to find a possiable way to get from Nice/Toulon Bordeaux i think i have to go via Paris? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Follow these links.

Seat 61 for general info
and
DB for train times

The DB site is excellent for route building/connections. Last year I used it to plan a trip from Crystal Palace through to Kiel.

Flyings defiantly out!Untill boeing introduce their new planes with dedicated air compressors everyone that flys gets a dose of nerve gas from the engine side of things!

Id rather go by ordinary local trains slowly enjoying the scenery wondering at the stations as we stop & exploring new villages during train changes.I think SNCF have dug up all those tracks to make way for roads & industry?

As it is i hope the TGV wheels have been cast & treated properly that one wont fly to pieces as the train roars through the night at 300 kmh

Boats are much safer, put up the sails set the self stearing/Windvane pour a cool drink take a book and drift(in the gulf of lions??) towards the chosen destination,on the canal du midi the 4hp putting away kedging off from time to time shareing a bottle & bread salad slices of cooked ham with others met along the way

Thanks as there not French sites im sure they will work!Off to look.

did once find TGV info on a French site,iTGV & this sncf site but then i dident want to go anywhere it seems the "functionaries" discoverd the site was working so theve "fixed it" now only the most dedicated might get some info, but im not sure! The sncf site is realy bad!

Thats very good!Within less than one minuet i found a list of departure & arrival times! With this info i can retern to a French site to see what it costs or wonder along to the SNCF??

Thanks for the links

I had to buy a tgv ticket to get back from Toulon last month, forget the websites. They are rubbish and anyway, you can only buy several days in adance, no earlier.
Either ring the train station (I presume you speak better French than I ever will /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) or go and buy from a machine in the station with a credit card.
And if you change stations at Paris allow at least an hour!!

Its a pity the French sites dont compliment the TGVs Its also annoying that normal trains are being thined & night trains finnished

As were all aboard ill open a bottle of Chateau Malartic Lagraviere from cru classz de graves in the 33 region 1979 we found at a small shop in that area. The bread is from yesterday & good with ripe reblochon de savoie!

Thanks for your links now lets eat some good bread and cheese with a good wine!

I managed to buy a TGV ticket over the internet a few years ago. They'd only deliver to a French address, which I didn't have, so I put down my address: blah, blah, London, postcode, France.

They posted it to that address and the French post office (bless'em) worked out that London wasn't in France and duly forwarded it to me.

The downside is I keep getting e-mails from SNCF and my French isn't good enough to tell them to stop.

bon soir trouville. I think the problem is that you are doing this on the railways 'translated' English web page sncf.com. It is a bit messy, btw just as 'Great Western's' french web page is no great shakes either. This is not their core competency. You have to go to the native French site sncf.fr to get the correct functionality. I have used it many times. It is not the best designed web resource in the world, but it works: you can get timetables and order tickets there.
