Do marinas generally charge by the metre or is it more usual to have a series of 'band lengths', i.e. 5 to 7 meters pays one price, 7 to 9 metres another etc?

If 'band length' is the method used, do all marinas use the same bands and what are they?

Is it the same for residents and visitors and is it the same in all countries?

Is it a lot more for a catamaran than a monohull?

Both,

Some charge by the meter, some by band, and some by the meter with different meter rates for different bands!

Usual uplift for cats is 1.5x standard rate, although that also varies (some charge no premium)

residents rates are much cheaper than visitor rates

finally, some marinas charge vastly different rates for different times of the year... especailly in the med....

At least thats what I think is the case!

How are marina fees worked out /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

They simply charge the maximum that they think they can get away with. When there is no local competition we are stuck with outlandish prices.

The marina that I berth at purport to charge by meter of berth size but I know for a fact that some people on an identical berth pay less than I do. I will this comlng year seek to pay a lower rate than I currently pay.

Its mainly size groups up to 7m /8m /9m etc then the day week and month or year!

Saint Raphael i just happen to have there tarrifs hear have 6m49-7.56 7.57-8.64 8.65-9.72 etc Bandol charge by the square meter but that rare

And cats are almost alway 150%

Winter costs about 33% the summer price most ports have summer and winter winter from 1 october untill 1st april

Portoferrio for example and rare has five seasons!!!!!!!!To ask the maximum!!

Almost everywhere is far to expensive below that is the Baltic!!

Only ever been charged by the actual length in the UK and never actually been charged more for a cat. Lots of places had a price list extra but they always proved flexible.

In France they were totally inflexible about the multihull extra including changing a friend who had one of theose foldable tris. Monos were charged both by length and by area (max beam x length) but there was no checking so a another pal whose boat was around 10 metres actual gradually got as low as 6 metres before he chickened out.

Spain was the least flexible of all - even measured the boat. Charges by area mainly, but with no catamaran extra.
