If you're gonna learn a language, why not learn something decent and useful like French or Spanish? Why bother learning a dying language where 80% of the nationals can't even speak it? ! ?
Come to think of it Chinese would be more useful, at least you could ask for a 69 without pointing.

Can't argue with the Chinese bit:)
But Welsh aint dyin thats fer sure
Well, not as fast as me English is!
I aint no die hard Welsh Nationalist type, thats fer sure too
mateyboy in the Area the NW Mob operate (fer want of a better word)
The Lingo is used regularly on a day to day basis and is flourishing
I am quite proud of My ability to converse (after a style) in said Tongue
My Wife is fluent, My children speak it ok, in fact My eldest Daughter teaches in both mediums , Plus has enough computer skills and knowledge in the language of our Froggie friends to teach in their Language too
Because I 'speak two spokes' as we say around here
I am quite comfortable when abroad in Europe communicating in the Local lingo wherever I have been
Yep, it serpently aint dead or dying
The Irish, Scots, Manx and Cornish are probably a little jealous that we have saved the Language
During the 19th and early 20th Century efforts were made to stifle it somewhat.
Yep, up here in the top left hand corner of Wales it is the language you will here predominatly at the local Supermarket, the Post Office, the Filling staion etc etc
The Policy that some education authorities in Wales ref drumming the language into children is, imho a bit over the top
But thats just mho
OK, as you suggest, maybe French etc may be off more use
But as Liz of Philliz has found
The Locals do appreciate the efforts that our English neighbors put in to try and get their heads round a few phrases
There are dialects too as Cymrogwyllt has pointed out
Bit like a Geordie trying to communicate from a proper Scouser from Bootle!
Was in between said Peeps once
Kinnel-- it might have been two peeps from separate Planets
But thats the beauty of Language and dialects and accents
I love it:D

Bleedin' 'ell, that almost makes sense, unusual for Kwackers this time of night ;)

For all us silly saes (furriners)?

To be of any value, there has to be an English translation. I love the bits of Cymraeg (Welsh) on here but only have a few words myself & it can take ages to sort out a translation.

How about Y Brifysgol Agored?

Croeso: beginners' Welsh.

Croeso will give you the skills you need to speak and understand simple Welsh in everyday contexts. No previous knowledge of Welsh is required. This key introductory Level 1 course will take you through a wide range of practical situations such as socialising, travelling and shopping, and explores aspects of Welsh society and culture. We’ll send you printed and audio materials, and you’ll have a dedicated website, all of which support independent learning.

That sounds OK Ubergeekian

However
'The study materials are carefully structured and graded, and provide (by the way there shouldn't be an apostrophe or comma after 'and') ample opportunities to practice the Language in realistic contexts
The main teaching text will be in 'present a form of' South Wales Welsh
But the websight will give you an opportunity to hear speakers from different parts of Wales'
Whoever wrote the English needs a few lessons
OK , like there is in England
There are Dialects
The Statement
'Present a form of South Wales Welsh'
Dim Diolch
That 'ROLLOCKS' in any Language

It's an Oxford comma.

You missed the last bit: "...and will provide notes on significant regional variations in the language." I don't speak Welsh (yet. I was signed up as a pilot student on this course but they had enough), but the native Welsh speakers I know, all from around Machynlleth are all pretty firm that South Wales and North Wales/Anglesey Welsh are very different.

Anyway, I'm not trying to defend the course, or even promote it - just though people might like to know that a distance learning Welsh course is available.

You've got a boat: you must be rich. If you didn't spend the money on cultural stuff you'd only blow it on underwater lights. ;)
