How about a "Wanted" forum for second hand boats, e.g Westerly Centaur with no engine

Following on from Dylan's search for a Westerly Centaur (with or without an outboard well) I think it would be a very useful forum where readers could post there requirements. I know there is a wanted forum for equipment and bits and bobs but a "yacht wanted" advert would get lost in the endless listings.

Example. Looking for Westerly Centaur with non running engine, but rest of boat should be in good condition. Max £3500

In my case I am looking for a Kirie Fifty 27 here in the UK. There are plenty in France but I cant find one in the UK.

The trouble with the For sale/wanted forums is that the posts get shunted down very quickly and viewers tend not to bother with anything not on the front page. My windlass http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?407789-Lofrans-Royale-manual-windlass&p=4924929#post4924929 is well down now but still available!

A simple search will often find what you want if it is still for sale. Unfortunately, bumping is prevented on the or sale/ wanted forums, but nowt to stop you reposting now & again - but not too often please!

Talking of Westerly Centaurs, there is a decent looking one for sale in Argyll: http://www.ardfernyacht.co.uk/brokerage.asp

I'd be tempted myself if it had been re engined, but the price is too high with it having the original Volvo MDIIb, which I gather is pretty dire and with most spares now unavailable.

re-engined

ah... but if had been re-engined then it would not be on the market for £6,500

you would have to look for a good one with a newer engine

True, but £6500 + a new engine would take it to over £12k and that's doing most of the work myself. So it comes down to what the owner will take for it I guess.

centaurs with good engines fetch about 10K I understand

It is very very hard to hard to find a good one though - especially in Scotland

Just as a wild stab in the dark ,,, supposing one were, hypothetically, looking for a good Centaur with a good engine somewhere in Scotland for around the £10k mark, have you any wild notion about where such a thing might be found?

I would not have a clue where a bloke could even start looking for such a splendid vessel

all urls that might lead me to a boat as good as you describe would be gratefully followed
